If you don't have the funds or the time to officially copyright your artwork, take the "poor man's" approach for protecting your artwork:

1. Take photos of your art; or record your song/poem.
2. Write title and date on back of photo or on cassette tape/CD label.
3. Mail your photo or tape/CD to yourself, but do not open the envelope.

4. Store the envelope in a safe place.

The envelope documents your name, your address, your art title, plus it is postmarked with a date. This envelope provides proof that you created the art on a specific date.
